At the risk of further complicating, rather than clarifying the issue, I
think it should be noted that the wifi problems seem to go away if I
uninstall network-manager and use wicd instead. This is true both of
12.04 and 12.10.

could detect no drop in wifi speed.

Sorry for the delay in responding...
I have just flashed the newest bios (1.8), but saw absolutely no change
in the wireless behavior. It misbehaves exactly as it did before, and
the same workaround still works.

Unfortunately I was unable to test the upstream kernel (3.6 rc6), as the
wl module would not load and I was left with no wireless connection
whatsoever.
I opened jockey and attempted to activate the broadcom driver through
