Mouse pointer vanished on Way

Running 20.04 with all the repos enabled (including focal-proposed)
A recent update (apt-get dist-upgrade) made the mouse point disappear.
The mouse worked on a text console... and lsusb etc showed the presence of the
mouse.
In Wayland, pressing control key showed the poin
I had seen comments in forums referring to similar problems in kernel
5.3.0 - and a kernel fix release to resolve.
But this PC is running 5.4.0

This is happening quite frequently when I boot the laptop and login.
It's running the last Alpha's of OO.. I update pretty much everyday.
So the only steps to reproduce are to login!!

No, this happened just after I logged into the laptop.
Didn't do anything with the Dropbox application... it was just running in
the background with an icon in the Taskbar.
It is running as a normal user, not as root.
