Beside the obvious problem of showing inappropriate pictures to minors,
there is the additional problem of bystanders naturally assuming that
the icons on my computer screen that pop up when I start a program or
search for a document refers to things that I have installed/downloaded
to my computer.
For me the icon on screen :0.0 (which is in front of me) never updates,
not for mute or for volume changes. Screen :0.1 (which is a tv, normally
off and behind my back) updates normally. Would not be so irritating if
it was the other way around.

Just tried booting with the jaunty alpha6 live cd. It could not start X.
Attached xorg.log from the live cd.
(Choosing failsafe did start X in vesa mode)

Yep, removing compiz fixes the problem. Of course compiz worked fine in
hardy, but anyway this probably means that compiz should be blacklisted
on intrepid with this hardware. Guess that could be done even after
relase?

I have the exact same problem on a fuijitsu-siemens amilo laptop.
Graphics is integrated intel 82845G/GL. I had hardy on it, then it
worked most of the time with nosplash boot option. I tried intrepid
live-cd alpha 5 and with that it worked fine. Did never try the beta
live cd. Now I network upgrad
That computer recently broke down and doesn't boot anymore, so as far as
I'm concerned the bug can be expired. I have not tried hardy, nor as I
remember a different keyboard.

Network upgraded to Gutsy. It still freezes when typing furiously on the
keyboard, but it now takes significantly longer, >30 seconds. So now
it's more or less usable, ie. won't crash every five minute any more
when logged in locally.

More Information:
I tried logging into a text console. I couldn't get it to freeze by typing
there like in an X session. It will however freeze by typing rapidly into the
graphical login window. I'm using a matrox G450 graphics card, with driver mga.
I also tried swithing to the vesa driver ins
