Also, when I kill compiz. Remote keyboard input ceases to work, however
the mouse input works fine.

This could be a bug in either compiz or vino reason I put "I don't
know"...sorry
While running Compiz w/ restricted nVidia drivers remote sessions to
vino server do not refresh screen. I can kill compiz processes and vino
will begin to act normally.
