I discovered that the upgrade process from 14.10->15.4 for some reason
held back plasma-desktop and simply did not install plasma-desktop-
data and several other packages. running sudo apt-get dist-upgrade fixed
the package issues and plasma desktop stopped crashing, witch it was

yes, disable it. You wont lose anything as mouse does not provide any
extra info for extended devices.
As far as I am aware from my testing with mmiicc, it only affects
extended devices and a specific event deliver mechanism

Probably none of these specifically. It's a timing issue so it depends
on how fast the system is loaded from the drive. For me, faster drive or
installing server software equally hid the bug. Faster drive probably
because nvidia loads faster now and the server software because X was
delayed a secon
Actually its neither kdm nor nvidia bug. Its an straight out
ubuntu/upstart bug. Upstart starts KDM before the nvidia driver in the
kernel is ready is ready and X fails. Perhaps a proper fix would be an
upstart job that is installed with the binary driver and checks if
nvidia is ready and delays X
Correction, it was the post nr #40 that helped.

Just to note, that as soon I uninstalled the sever components(postgresql
database sever in my case) I had needed temporarily the issue came back.

I have a laptop that was upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty. When it comes
up from cold boot is ends up with failsafe X more often than not.
Failsafes/normal boots are about 60%/40%. If I restart KDM it always
starts properly. I havent found any indikation from the logs about the
the same here. the event device nodes are again properly created in
/dev/input

authentication but thats where it stops. No contact list is fetched and
the status permanently remains connecting. There are no error messages

If pulseaudio wastes CPU idle then trying to play audio into an alsa
sink thats a bt device makes it consume 100% cpu and strace is full of
messages about MSG_NOSIGNAL. It makes my BT headset unusable.

It just like to note that this is not just eeepc issue. My hardware is
about year old rebranded compal laptop, so this influences usual laptops
too. I like the twofinger scroll btw:)
