Should have tried more before I left the first comment, but I went into
the trashcan settings and unchecked "limit to maximum size" and deleting
items is now instant.

I am also experiencing this. It seems that moving an item or items into
an empty trash reacts quicker than when there are existing items in the
trash.

I have had this same issue since I did a fresh install on my current
machine when hardy launched. Currently, I'm using Kernel version
2.6.24-18, nVidia driver version 1:96.43.05, and KDE 3.5.9 (and using
KDM login manager).

My Kubuntu system is affected, too. Adept updater indicated 4 new packages this
morning. After update was complete, a new Konqueror session wouldn't load. I
restarted X, and wouldn't let me past KDM.
Originally, I changed the LANG variable. I have since reversed the update by
using "sudo aptit
Just want to add that as of 01/08, this bug is still causing a problem.
I'm currently using a Netvista 8303HCU with Gutsy, 2.6.22-14-i386.
Adding 'acpi=off noapic' to the grub menu entry resolves the issue.
