I dig some more testing and I found out that I experience this 'bug' in
other operating systems as well, so it's obviously a hardware issue, not
a bug.

I think this is not a bug. Most likely cause is that the drive really
wasn't cleanly unmounted in Windows and since Linux (unlike Windows)
respects the filesystem state, it won't mount it. You should have tried
the first suggestion: disconnect the external devices by clicking on the
'Safely Remove
