Unfortunately the fix is not yet backported to vivid or wily. To fix it

I've been able to work around the problem by limiting the mouse and

I've managed to reproduce the same bug on a different PC, running nvidia 96

Update - I have tried with kernel 2.6.31-16 and parameter acpi=off and I was
unable to reproduce the bug for 3 days. I would say acpi fixes the issue.
Now, I have switched to kernel 2.6.31-17 and I will test again without acpi=off

Update:
My system is now stable after uninstalling xscreensaver and using xlock instead
(no more 3d graphics). I will leave it on like this for a while and afterwards
I will enable compositing in my window manager (Xfce) and see if it becomes
unstable again. Will keep you posted.

Just wanted to say the problem appears even without heavy cpu or i/o

Here's some hopefully relevant output:

I installed the latest intel driver from these repos:

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/intel-gfx-testing/ubuntu intrepid main
It gave me version 2:2.5.1-1ubuntu5~intrepid (from 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10).
It still crashed, about 6 hours

X crashed again with the intel driver. For now, the crash seems to be related
to high cpu usage periods (I was copying a file over a slow usb 1.1 link).
Strangely enough, when copying such files, Xorg is the cpu hog (even with the
VESA driver it uses ~90% of the CPU).
Is there a known workaround
Any progress (or is there another duplicate bug I can follow) on this problem?
My X (using xfce ontop) still crashes and I am running it with vesa driver for
now.
For me, it's a critical bug! :)

I experienced the same problem, on a Intel 82945G/GZ video card, running the
latest X.org + intel driver release in Ubuntu Intrepid. From time to time (as

locks up, goes into a restart loop and I can only start it with th
