On Linux Mint 18.2 (based on Ubuntu 16.04) I don't experience the issue
when using mdm as X display manager instead of lightdm.
So this has something to do with lightdm ?!!

I created /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-dontvtswitch.conf with the following
contents:

I was using DVD::RIP and it was working just fine some time ago (didn't
use it for a while). It has ffmpeg/h264 in the video codecs selection,
but I seem I can't use them.
Has anything happen lately with dvd:RIP/transcode/ffmpeg?

When I try to encode a DVD with DVD:RIP by choosing ffmpeg/h264 in
transcode I receive the following error:

I can confirm this. I also noticed that my laptop's (IBM Thinkpad T23)
HDD was powering off after 5 seconds. I took a look in
/etc/acpi/power.sh and I saw that the power management settings were
hardcoded.
