Server installed 02nd May 2014 exhibits this behaviour. Cold boot,

I believe there is a common problem with USB mass storage devices across
the board. Several won't play nice with the new UDEV rules in Intrepid.

a solution for the C902 that might work for you.

I can confirm that Tares comment works. Also for solving the E: client-
conf-x11.c: XOpenDisplay() failed messages mpd needs to be added to the
pulse audio servers lists. Look at http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/PulseAudio
under " For Distros where PulseAudio access rights are broken " :D
