Public bug reported:
I tried playing chromium-bsu with a joystick - it is simply ignored.
a quick look at the source shows that the joystick handling code is
hidden behind a define: WITH_JOYSTICK
if I rebuild the package with that define set, it works perfectly.

I'm not convinced this is 'a kernel bug' as opposed to being openswan
related - we only saw it under heavy VPN traffic, and the problem
immediately resolved itself if the VPN was restarted.
it's not solved, but worked around. we've been running a newer stock
kernel rather than the lucid ones.
--
a little more digging shows this is definitely a 'new firewire stack'
bug - switching to the old stack fixes the issue.
feel free to change this to a kernel bug..

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: dv4l
I was successfully using dv4lstart (provided by dv4l) to present my
firewire camcorder as a V4L device that skype could use in lucid.
I recently upgraded to maverick, and this no longer works. skype gets a
single image from the camcorder, then stops
sigh. I didn't bother replying to the previous request for 'testing with
gnomebaker', because I'd quite clearly stated earlier in the bug report
that 'gnomebaker is quite happy to copy it'... so my bug report wasn't
being read.

so this is not specifically a ubuntu kernel bug. a stock 2.6.32.15
kernel also shows the issue.
it looks like there were some IPSEC locking fixes in net/ipv4/ah4.c that
went on between 2.6.32.15 (broken, just like the lucid kernel) and
2.6.33.5 (working), specifically commit

just tried the 2.6.35-020635rc3-generic testing kernel from maverick. it
also seems to be good, but doesn't seem to have apparmor?
I was (a) hoping for apparmor support and (b) a little suspicious since
apparmor shows up in the stack trace I attached.. but it's not in either
of the 'good' kernels.

on lucid, pushing large amounts of data across an IPSEC (openswan) VPN

stop sending data). eventually the whole machine appears to hang (or go

I understand there's no obvious error there, but there's not a lot I can
do. I start brasero, hit the 'Disc copy' button, and get a dialog that
tells me 'Select disc to copy' with a grayed out dropdown that says 'No
available disc'.

actually libncurses.so.5 is in /lib, not /usr/lib, so you need this:
sudo apt-get install libncurses5
sudo ln -s /lib/libncurses.so.5 /usr/lib/libtinfo.so.5
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libtinfo.so.5 /usr/lib/libtinfo.so

Kristen... I got the same behavior. it seemed to be because I had *two*
kernel versions installed, 2.6.27-7 and 2.6.27-11.
the 2.6.27-11 version had been installed (badly) before I fixed the
mkinitramfs program, so the symbolic link to it from /initrd.img was
broken - this seems to prevent other k

the testing page, it not only does NOT fix the flicker, but there are
now also redraw issues when scrolling gnome terminal windows.
needless to say I'm about to try and remove this version...

hmm. I'm not convinced the 'every 5 seconds' flicker is the same thing.
I saw other bug reports around when I was trying to see if others had my
issue (persistent flickering, almost subliminal with the brightness
turned down a couple of notches), and the 'every 5/7 seconds' thing was
something to
no effect from reconfiguring X.. my hardy config didn't have anything
special in it either, though.
