I tried the workaround suggested in #57, and it doesn't work on an R840
using Quantal. Not sure if anyone else has had luck on any other laptop
on Quantal.

I've got the same issue on the Toshiba Tecra R840. I looked at the
following thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1550219 and
there was a fix which involved using toshset to turn the backlight on
after adjusting the levels.
When typing "toshset -bl on" into the terminal after adjusting
I've still got this issue with Lucid Beta1, just upgraded and got a
shock when I started firefox. The fonts look absolutely awful, I hope
there's an official fix soon, or I see this turning into a ppa-based
fix-frenzy.

I can confirm this bug on the stable release of Karmic, with KDE 4.3.4
updates applied. Furthermore, the iwlist wlan0 scan essid hiddenap
workaround doesn't work for me. Knetworkmanager simply refuses to
acknowledge the existence of the hidden AP even though iwlist sees it.

Seems to be the same issue. I have a new laptop with an nvidia card
now... and it still happens from time to time, especially when I open
the mail component of kontact from the system tray.

There still isn't an option for Dynamic WEP as Legolas mentioned. Hmm,
I'll look at the knetworkmanager source at some point and see if they're
added it. I think the kubuntu devs just merged the most recent changes
from CVS, and they must not have included Dynamic WEP.

Hello,
This seems to be fixed in Hardy. I suggest closing the bug once a couple

I've listed it as invalid on nvidia-glx-new, since it most definitely
isn't a problem with the nvidia driver. I've experienced it on both
nvidia and ati systems(using both the free and proprietary ati drivers
and nvidia-glx-new). Furthermore, it has also been reported on an Intel
card above.

I can confirm this on my laptop as well, a Dell XPS m1530. I can suspend
from the Kubuntu shut-down menu, but not from the guidance-power-manager
menu, which makes it quite impossible to suspend when closing the laptop
lid!
However, Hibernate works just fine from the guidance power manager menu.

Hello again,
Seeing there was no response to my above post, I thought I'd try
compiling knetworkmanager from svn. Unfortunately, I haven't had much
success. The changelog reveals that the above patches were in fact
merged into the codebase quite some time back (around october last

Hello,
I've got the same issue trying to connect to my university network. I
was wondering if the patches mentioned in the above post could make it
into hardy. I'm running Hardy Alpha 5 at the moment, and am yet to see
them.
Cheers

Hello everyone,
A lot of you have reported a backtrace containing the following error, or

I believe Xorg is at fault. I've had it happen to me other than times
that I use Yakuake, but that's the easiest way to reproduce it. Whatever
it is, I'm quite sure Nvidia isn't at fault, since it happens to me with
an ATI card, and as seen on the other bug report, it happened to someone

This isn't an Nvidia bug, since my backtrace is exactly the same when using
compiz or kwin-composite(kde3).
I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600 Mobility with the DRI drivers shipped by default
in gutsy. I've recreated the error deliberately a couple of times, and the
backtraces are always identical.

Oh.. I forgot to mention, the bug only occurs when a compositing manager
is used. Its fine as long as normal Kwin is run.

Same here. I believe this is a known problem as far as kopete goes, and
the devs aren't going to fix it till KDE4 comes out. I do wish I could
get it working though!
