David (and anyone else who's reading this), I think it's worth noting
that at some point, between the time I originally posted this issue and
before the beta came out, I downloaded an update that corrected this. I
can't tell you which one, though, since I always just download all
available updates

When I delete items anywhere (using 9.04 Alpha 6) they do not appear in
the trash, but are not deleted. I need to navigate to
/home//.local/share/Trash/files in order to view the "deleted"
items and to permanently delete them. This is on the Live CD that I put
