Timo, I think the problem is with xorg-server,
along with mesa, it was present on the latest updates when the crash came up.
When kodi tries to load a video, its window simply closes.
If switch to Wayland, it works.
But everything is very buggy with this server, it's inoperable.

I was mistaken, the TRENDnet TUC-ET2G is actually based on RTL8156 while
the TUC-ET5G is effectively based on Aquantia IC. I made wrong
assumption since Aquantia also has a USB3.0 to ETH 2.5Gbe bridge.

I have an Asus UX533FD with the same booting problems. I use Ubuntu
18.04 with kernel v5.1.10. I can confirm adding dis_ucode_ldr works.

This worked for me, thanks! Anyway, I would like to point out that this
is a problem upstream and it would be nice to port the fix to Debian. I
have emailed the maintainer a couple of times because of this issue but
never got an answer. It would safe to consider upstream to be
unmaintained at this
