What software did you use to watch videos when these hangs occurred?
I've now been able to hang 4.4rc8 with OpenGL 3.0 code that draws about
70 million triangles per second. I haven't been able to hang it with
streaming video from the web or playing MPEG4 (ripped dvd's) video with
VLC. And so far

I had this same issue on an Asus K501UX with Ubuntu 15.10 freshly
installed. Wifi showed hardware blocked, fn+F2 does not work so there
was no obvious way to enable wifi. The same workaround fixed the
problem: options asus_nb_wmi wapf=4

3.13.0.71-generic and 4.4.0-040400rc8 to get past the boots into low
graphics mode.
I did the alt-ctrl-F1 and installed Nvidia-173, which didn't help. I
then installed Nvidia-current, which is working under 3.13.0.71-generic.

Here is a thought. How is the album collection sorted in the music app?
The large collection contains lots of albums with an empty album tag
(because that's what would possibly happen a real collection). If the
music app collates albums with the empty string at the front of the
list, that

albums are working just fine for me in the song list. They also work
fine in the music scope, which makes me think that the problem is in the
music app, rather than in media scanner or the thumbnailer. It may well
