I've had several video lockups since running the kernel and driver that
I mentioned in comment 72. I've been trying to figure out a way to get a
back trace. All I've been able to come up with so far is this from the
/var/log/kern.log tied to the latest lockup:

The above fix worked for me.however on reboot my touchpad was not
usable.
I had to run - sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics - to
restore functionality.

I just found a workaround. The boot screen is linked to vt7, that's
where I'm asked for the passphrase. Keyboard input is taken from vt1. So
when I switch to vt1 (ALT+F1), enter the password there and press ENTER
and boots up as expected.

As per my above comment, running those commands did fix the issue. Note:
as I mentioned, you need to install the depends also.. example:
~# sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg unity-control-center xserver-xorg-
video-intel xserver-xorg-core xorg-video-abi-15 libcheese-gtk23
libcheese7 libclutt

Don't know if it can be useful, but often after the crash the bash shell
from which I've launched Eclipse doesn't respond to keyboard commands.

I'm trying to recreate the crash but am failing so far. It seem to work fine in
