Sometimes using the web. Once it starts to happen, the wifi disconnects
repeatedly with no reason.

I can confirm I also have this issue using Macbook Air, mid 2013,
ElementaryOS Freya.

I need to amend my last comment. I just performed another installation
on the same hardware starting from the live DE and I once again ended up
with just a black screen after selecting Restart - this time with Ubuntu
Mate amd64 but I doubt it's flavor specific maybe it's just
more like
