Just installed a fresh copy of Xubuntu 14.04.1 and I also have that
problem. In addition after wakeup the screen stays black after the
password dialog. I don't mind, because I wouldn't want to go into sleep

I think I understand now: libvte9 stopped evolving in Oct 2012 at
0.28.2-5. It is not supported by gnome.org anymore. And it has NOT been
forked by MATE yet! Integrating your new patch would mean to fork the
out-dated libvte9.

Just to document additional support. I concur that on a Server install,
PE should disabled by default. A server doesn't fall into the use case
of needing to protect the privacy of the user. It is meant to be known,
not obfuscated.
