I reinstalled alsa-daily and I was able to get 'hda jack retask' to function. I
choose show unconnected pins and advanced override. Raymond suggested a couple

Ok basically the quick fix for me was to copy
/usr/lib/syslinux/gfxboot.c32 onto the USB-disk to match the version of
syslinux mbr actually installed on the USB-flash.
I guess a plausible fix would be to just copy over all syslinux files

#28 worked for me as well, on Xubuntu 14.04 using a MSI Z97 Gaming 5.
Have tried various other stuff like Alsa overrides, Realtek drivers
built from scratch, disabling pulseaudio and so on until I stumbled over
this thread.

Just got back from vacation and continuing this effort to resolve. In
reviewing your notes, Do you understand that My headphone jacks sound
fine, however the internal speakers seem to be mapped wrong or unmapped?
