Pidgin has been working for me (with the env variable workaround for MS
servers), but now suddenly it fails to display a window. Debug (-d) and
strace seem to indicate the program is otherwise working. When I
Ctrl-C, the window appears to flicker on screen before terminating.

Explicitly using QT_SELECT in all Qt using packages is tentatively now a
goal on Debian side, so I'd say that's the way to go.
Qt 5 as such shouldn't interfere, it just depends on the qtchooser
configuration. It would be beneficial though to sync qt4-x11 from Debian
to bring some more fallback fun
Did the test case and it works as advertised after updating (and not
before).

Confirmed with a 4,2 Macbook Air. Thankfully I have a trackball in hand
most of the time, but this is definitely the biggest drawback I've
encountered so far since switching from OS X a couple of days ago.
FWIW, xf86-input-mtrack has recently added two options that sound
promising:

I am unsure what to do with this one. Haven't tested and can't reproduce
this as we don't run this device anymore. Right now, using a "plain"
NetApp FAS-2020, OnTap 7.4 and a 3.8.0 kernel off Ubuntu 13.04, this is
no longer a problem. As far as I am concerned, this one could be closed.
