I'm still having this issue (2012-12-21 comment 609). Very annoying!
Freezes seem to be completely random, at the best my laptop has been
running fine longer than month, but for example during the past two
weeks, maybe ten freezes.

In my case, it was solved by the following:
- Reinstall Ubutu 13.04
- Leave the location/ time zone as it is (do not change the time zone, leave as
its default)
- Cotinue installation
When installation is completed, time zone or location can be changed.

Control:
The alert is a function of nautilus and gnome-settings-daemon. The
first shows the error and the second one decides whether to automount or
not. Gvfs isn't really in a position to control how the detection events
are responded to.
Disabling device automount is the simplest way to avoid it.

I'm also experiencing this bug. I'm using Kubuntu 12.04 on 4 different
computers since that version was released. Computer 1 is a desktop with
AMD processor and 8GB of ram, and it has never had this issue. Computer
2 and 3 are laptops with Intel core Duo processors and 2 and 4 GB of ram

I just observed this problem on a 1.7 gigahertz machine having 1
gigabytes of RAM, which is within the minimum system requirements you
used as your rationale for ignoring the problem.
The system was reporting a crash in the system-updates notifier
(apport), and apparently that slowed down the syst

This is an Ubuntu design decision to allow music to continue to play
unless the music is explicitly stopped or paused or the user clicks
File>Quit.
In Unity you can also click the sound menu in the top right area of the
screen to pause music from Rhythmbox.
