For those who are having reboot hangs like me, I opened a new bug and also
posted a workaround there.
Please check if this workaround works for you as well, to identify if it's the

Turn on logging, by specifying the --log=log option when you start
gscan2pdf from the command line. Switch to the scanimage frontend in
Edit/Preferences, then read from the log the scanimage call which
gscan2pdf used when scanning.
If you can reproduce the bug with scanimage from the command line,
me and the ubuntu guest session, for friends wich want use my computer,
