good long term fix, it will require little maintenance once implemented,
and will present the user with a consistent dialog across the desktop
once other applications start to implement this generic application

I posted this a month ago and no one seems to do something about this
problem. How can the Ubuntu Software centre move forward with all of

Th e problem is not users adding system paths, the problem is gnome-
panel allows no user overrides. The only way to modify the path is to
modify the global /etc/profile. Gnome-panel should be overridden by
~/.profile.

I would have to agree with Michael, using the supplied GTK3 dialog is a
good long term fix, it will require little maintenance once implemented,
and will present the user with a consistent dialog across the desktop
once other applications start to implement this generic application
selector.

There are API's to get this information, yes, but GTK3 comes with an
application selector dialog which would make fixing this bug much
easier.

you will be treading on any toes by taking it up.
As you can see by the previous posts the issue here has been finding a
way to implement this so that it can be cross platform. What are the
API's you are purposing to use to imp

the platform have existed already for a long time.

Whenever I click the right mouse button, I get a "left click" instead.
If I click on a file in nautilus or any other graphical object, and
drag, I get a right click instead of dragging the object. So drag&drop
is not possible using the left mouse button. This is very annoying
