2nd case -
in expo the arrow keys can navigate and highlight the desktops. At least here,
(set back to your default of 2x2 for consistency, I generally use 1x4), the
down and up keys also scroll the launcher. Again the tooltips are exposed,
though in expo no big deal, clicking anywhere removes.
Thank you for following up with a new bug report.
This apport capture is a lot more detailed than bug 715122; in fact with
that bug it's not really evident what went wrong (the error codes are
all 0's). But this one shows that there's been a divide error. There
is no reason not to think it's the
# sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
# update-manager -d
did the trick for me :)

Have you been seeing other instances of this freeze, or just this once?
If you'd been running natty successfully previously, without this
freeze, when did you first start noticing it? If you boot to an older
kernel does it go away?
How frequently does the freeze happen?

I ran into this problem while attempting to install Ubuntu Desktop 10.04
AMD64 onto a Zotac MCP7A with P4 dualcore CPU. Had to install Ubuntu
Server instead and get gdm to work from there. After all of the updates
were applied, I had an official 10.04.2 system and the problem still
exists.

The notification that this had crashed appeared just after rebooting.
The bug reporting tool was also crashing at the same time so it's hard
to say when this happened/what the cause was.
