/tmp on another partition, separate from / (root), the files in /tmp is

upgrading to 10.10 beta from 10.
I experienced an Xorg crash when pressing either Alt+Tab, Alt+F2 does
not display the run application dialog, when Xorg crashed, programs like
Chrome / Firefox still run but my keyboard is useless yet my mouse works
fine.
I am using an Asus F8VA laptop with ATI Radeon HD3650 video card.

Nominated for Maverick due to the multiple reports of folks encountering
this problem when updating to Maverick (see dupes) and for the fact that
Software Center will not start at all when this occurs.
I've cherrypicked mvo's fix from natty in the attached branch lp:~gary-

I currently have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and have not had problems with
jerky mouse movement since 10.04.
