This confirms another theory, the live-CD you burned was corrupt, and
that this somehow corrupted the kernel module in use, effectively
removing sound from your system. This is the dmesg entry indicating that

Miro 3.0-0pcf1 will not install without python-gnome2-extras so I installed

Cd/dvd is not recognized in Lucid. Only when the cd/dvd is in the tray
at startup it works as expected.
In Disk Utility the cd/dvd drive is shown as normal, however the disk
information under Volume is "unknown".
I can force Lucid to recognize and
after installing backports-modules the sound was steel playing after
inserting headphones. Also the quality of recordered voice was lowest
than in xp, sound stuttering. Asus EeePC 1005 HA-M. Also in ubuntu 10.04

I compiled both kernel 2.6.34-rc2 and 2.6.32.10 with make oldconfig based on
the linux-image-2.6.32-16, but that didn't help. It freezes about half the time
when booting.
OpenSuse 11.3 M4 (kernel-2.6.33) on the other hand boots without

i have msi gt725 quad core 2ghz ddr2 4gb ati hd4850 tried karmic with udev 147
6.0 cpu usage about 0 to max 2% then upgraded it to udev ver 147 6.1 cpu went
to 30% sudo restart udev helped cpu went to 0%. but this is no solution.
tried lucid beta too with start udev 151 7 the same issue cpu usa

Installing Mythbuntu 10.4 beta1 over Ubuntu 9.10 after contaminating
original O/S with Lucid Lynx files.
In trying to preserve the original user files, I re-used the / partition
without formatting it and re-used the swap partition. The other
