How is this a bug in compiz, exactly? Unlike other problems compiz might
have with other programs metacity can be fixed and it should be pretty
easy to do so. The only thing I can think of compiz could do here is use
a timestamp sometime in the distant future but that hardly seems proper.

certain options (or switches) available in alsamixer. The option I
really need is line-in as output and it is gone. I am using the snd-hda-
intel driver.

Yep, can confirm it blanks the screen. Btw if you do Alt+Tab instead of
Esc, you see the glxgears app running. Seems it's just triggering dpms
or something.
