I have just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 on 20th June and can confirm this
bug exactly as described. I tried putting a floppy in the drive and the
system appeared to read it a few times and then hung completely (needed

This was fixed for me by basically uninstalling everything mono, and
reinstalling.
It's still worth looking at since it basically stops apt from working
without a load of screwing around. Could cause problems for other people
who are less used to dealing with apt.

This was solved by adding myself to the audio group in /etc/group. I
realize this is an easy fix, but why wouldn't this be taken care of by

Do you have to be both watching videos and listening to music on
audacious or with things crash if you only watch videos or only listen
to music on audacious? It is important to see which of the two programs
are causing the problem, or if the problem only happens when both are
running.

Thanks for the report Jim! However a bug report should be about one
specific issue. GIMP is already included by default in Ubuntu, so I am
not sure what that one is doing on the list. Most others such as
Scribus, Inkscape, Dia, GnuCash, Audicty, and Maxima are available for
Ubuntu simply by searchi

Update: Even with write-caching off, the drives still give the softreset

I have exactly the same problem and have been searching the internet for
solution in the last few month unsuccessfully. Although the system
continue to boot with this error, but we would like to ask the kernel
team to find out what cause this error. Thanks.
