download a test (desktop) live cd from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/
It appears that OOo builds on PowerPC with JAVA now without problems.

different use cases: one where updates that require a restart HAVE BEEN

Since Canonical's new notification system went into Jaunty, Pidgin's
libnotify plugin doesn't display any notifications. I tried removing
notify-osd (and stopping the already running process) and restarting
Pidgin to see how it would behave for no
just a note: the wireless is working on my CQ-50 running 8.04, so the
network is OK. Below is ifconfig, iwconfig, and daemon.log. I left
wmaster0 in the output of ifconfig because I'm not actually sure what it

live-nosplash the the installed system boots without problems. It seems
the problem with the splash screen is only on the desktop CD.
