Hm, I installed -15 versio of lowlatency kernel and Nvidia drivers work
again (and modules load).
Could it be that my installation just has some conflicting files with
-generic kernel, though I have uninstalled nvidia-glx with --purge?

I have not tried since then as all the updates have been for a Windows

Well it was working but after installing Xubuntu Feisty (Release
Candidate) I'm back to the same problem regardless of whether X is
running 16bit or 24bit.

correct setting for XMODIFIERS is @im=SCIM, uppercase. However with
GTK_IM_MODULE set to scim, this environment variable shouldn't have any

I have just reinstalled Feisty (failed to upgrade!); but using the old /home/
directory / configuration.
Unfortunately, I still have to disable the KDE sound system before using
audacity:

I dont know if this happened when I changed window managers from Beryl
to metacity and vice versa, but Im looking now at an empty recycle bin
in the right corner of my screen that contains 12 files that were
previously in my Desktop before I deleted them.
