Also, I imagine it's not transparent as it's using an undecorated button
and not an event box + image, or something along those lines.

Just to say, I didn't call it a panel applet - It's a small application
that displays itself using the notification area... The change might
make it more conveniently named for searches though, I guess.

Incase anyone didn't get it from the website before it went down, i'm
attaching the original, mostly-working .diff.gz files for the kernel and
xorg.
Hopefully these can be upstreamed shortly.

I don't have easy access to this machine any more, so further updates
will not be likely.

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-7-generic
Since upgrading from dapper to edgy (and consequently losing ir-kbd-gpio), the
computer is completely unable to recognize and/or use Winfast 2000XP RM (bttv
compliant) infrared remote port.
Tried everything, but nothing work
Note that scim doesn't has a panel applet per se, it just uses the
notification area applet provided by the desktop environment. I changed
the bug title and description accordingly.

Thanks for reporting.
I can confirm this bug (although only on a Debian machine now). However
the PNG file for the icon indeed has transparent background, so this has
something to do with the way scim uses the notification area. I
actually remember seeing similar things in KDE as well in dapper
I too, along with many other Ubuntu users who have decided to use the
Ubuntu forums to share this error, have this problem. The error seems
to be benign, but I am getting the feeling that it is far more serious
than what some assume it to be.
As a matter of fact, it should probably be labled "cri
