perhaps this is a framebuffer problem. could you please tell us what
graphics hardware you're using? Please attach the output of "lspci -vv"
(without the quotes) using the website.
Also, the output of "cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf|grep Driver" (again without
the quotes).

With totem-gstreamer they work most of the time but often I get an "Internal
data flow error" (screenshot attached). When that error appears if I just
click ok and then click on the play button, it works and the subtitles show
up fine. That error only appears with movies that have subtitles.

DCOP calls to change volume also insist on using PCM here, but I've
never filed a bug because it seems my volume consists of equal parts
'volume' and 'PCM', so either works just fine for me.

It's not so much that upstart "doesn't deal" with init scripts that
require user input, the daemon itself is perfectly capable of providing
jobs with a console if they need it. You just have to put "console
output" in the job description file.

I just closed it using the [x], and it popped up a crash dialog.
Only one time so far though, I can't reproduce it step for step.

I can confirm this. My IDE drive is identified as 'hda' in Dapper, but
in Edgy, it thinks it is SCSI and names the drive 'sda'. I used the
alternate install CD, and I *think* the partitioner there said SCSI
also. Once installed, the drives were still detected as SCSI (sda)
improperly.

the version of xorg is not the same as the version of X. please type X
-version at terminal it will show you the version of X is 7.1.1 xorg is
one package in X xorg is not X. xserver-xorg and xorg are both gonna

The vast majority of firefox crashes are caused by buggy plugins -
notably, the Macromedia Flash player. These crashes cannot be solved by the
Ubuntu team because Flash is not Free S

It's a good idea besides the root partition to create another partition
in which you keep all your data (/home is not always a good idea to be
kept when changing/upgrading distributions). This way it will be easy to
switch from distro to distro.

Thanks for your report. At present, you must reformat system partitions
(e.g. /, /boot, /usr, or /var) during installation; the fact that the
partitioner doesn't warn you about this is also bug 47046, and is fixed

The problems is because of the panel size.
The panel size you can set in the GUI is 25 minimum but when you set it
manually in gconf-editor to 24 all icons are the right size.
I say all icons because the icon of my contact-applet suddenly changed
to a bigger version, as did the terminal icon.
