Hmm, I was just about to log a bug myself with a strange problem only
apparently occuring on fresh installs of Dapper or Edgy (not upgraded).
I run an 'approx' local .deb cache, (used to be aptproxy but the bug is
the same for both). Pointing the sources.list to my local cache
(approx) gives forb

I just (mid August '06) auto-upgraded to Dapper from Breezy.
I encountered the same problem on reboot.
The workaround provided by Nathaniel B. Jayme above worked for me.
This is a serious problem for anyone upgrading from Breezy to Dapper
with smbfs mounts in their fstab. Please fix!

After I took the above screenshot of the "just-before-crash" screen, I
clicked forward, deleted the hda3 and hda4 partitions, recreated them
exactly as they were before (in the screenshot), clicked "Forward" and
the installation is proceeding normally.
Wierd.
The first time, in the "next" screen,
I restarted Ubiquity to get a snapshot of how the partitions were just
before the crash. If I press the "Forward" button, Ubiquity will crash.
I am trying to use hda3 (1gig) as swap, and hda4 as "/" - nothing too
fancy as you can see.

I also have the same problem. It used to work fine until moving to the
2.6.15_something kernel. Using the kernel boot parameter "pci=nommconf"
made it work for me. I heard from somebody else who also has the same
problem that it has not been seen in the 2.6.17 kernel.

If you are willing to, that would be awesome! Wait until it dies down,
then post /var/log/syslog, /var/log/acpid/ /var/log/dmesg, and

Aha, this all makes sense. I can work around it, but you're right, it's
horribly confusing for new users.
What would be best IMHO, is if the suite of apt frontends (synaptic,
update-manager, etc) handled the "407 Proxy auth required" response
gracefully and prompted for credentials.

The PC is now freezing as go to some on line sites. It does not respond

permission, a delete of the folder ~/.openoffice.org2/ fixed the problem
