Let me get back to an update to the issue:
I could mount other partitions from lxde in those two machines. Just had to
start the pcmanfm as super user. But, still the problem of network persists
and did not try anything abou

I am using a Maximus v92 which has a "USB Storage" mode. I can access it

Kubuntu. Also, the project is not very active now-a-days. Instead use
VLC or MPlay
