I have this too : Physical button from the touchpad is handled as a left click.
I can use 2-fingers as a workaround, but "area" mode is not working though.

After 5-10 min of use, displays an unicolored (full) screen (light blue
after sys updates, purple before). System seems running (disk activity).

I tried adding xorg-edgers ppa and upgrade. This made things worse : Logs out
immediately after login.
So I installed 15.10 that seems to work finer, but with another random display

Frequency of reproduction has spaced. After having it 5-6 times in the
first 30min, I could use the machine without incident for almost 2

Customise it with your own
A script i put in my startup applications to automate the workaround. Replace
xkb:fr::fra' by your own kb if not french.
Display your actual config with "dconf read
/desktop/ibus/general/preload-engines".
Also customize "set xkbmap fr".
