It seems I was debugging something similar with rhuddie the other day
(without solution). In case it's useful I'll mention it here:

maliit-server, then the test immediately clicked on a text input and
failed as the OSK never came u

When I attempted to install libgtk2.0-0 it said something along the
lines of needing to remove the old package 2.24.30-4ubuntu2 (I think, I
closed the terminal window), and I was getting a permission denied
despite running as root. Putting SELinux into permissive mode allowed
Bug #1654581 was duped to this one, but I will say that the crash has
become much more prevalent, like nearly 100% reproducible after the last
qtmir release.

This is the easiest way to reproduce for me:
- Unity 8 desktop session, either X+O or Zesty
- Create a Libertine container and install an app in it such as Firefox.
- Start the X app.
- Wait ~30 minutes, ie, leave the system alone.
Xmir seems to exacerbate the issue, but I have observed the crash
Some more data points...
I disabled the screen blanking, but that made no difference.
But with the screen not blanked, I started an X app through Xmir and
left U8 idle and observed at almost exactly 10 minutes of idle time, U8
crashed. This is what was in unity8.log at the time of the crash:

Ok, I looked a bit, and it appears Firefox is trying to use the GDK-Mir
backend, but I'm guessing the GDK-Mir backend is not mature enough yet
(?), so the app bails.
Definitely not an Xmir issue as Xmir is not even trying to be used in
this case.
