Having a user friendly interface would be preferable, but I'm OK with

No, just the output format as is makes more sense than the suggestions:
* pkg/release is valid syntax that can be passed to commands (even /now is
valid)
* it's a list command, so it should not perform a search
* showsrc is a very old name, it's not going to change.
