started via pentadactyl but never noticed AppArmor DENIED messages. Go
figure..

The "black or blinking" is Xmir GLX bug 1510025.
So the real bug here as dinamic points out, is that Xmir is in the snap.
It should not be running Xmir and should not come with Xmir.
