In the middle of a script run by cron, I'm restarting the cron service
(service cron restart).
The script finishes just fine on 14.04 (and keeps doing whatever is
after the cron restart). On 16.04, it kills the script meaning that it
kills all its children.

You might need to press F6 to select the Xonar sound card, then F4 to see
recording controls.
Use arrow keys to find a control named "Mic Source" and change it from "Mic
Jack" to "Front Panel". Does this enable recording for you?

This is another sign of a good distribution going backwards.
I need to change a large VM cluster from DHCP to static over SSH using
automation tools
/etc/init.d/networking restart used to work remotely for this. What the
heck am I supposed to do now?
Clearly everybody used /etc/init.d/networking
This does not work for me.
ifdown eth0 && ifup eth0
as root, running over ssh and screen and the machine has disappeared.
Unfortunately our test machines are not VMs with local access only to the
console.
I now have a long round trip journey to the datacenter.

This is happening with us on Ubuntu 14.04.3 authenticating against ldap
using sssd. I have changed my /etc/init/autofs.conf as recommended by
Ruben (above #43) and it works for me as well.

Ugo, it gives me also a I/O error input/ output error. I cannot create
such a file on SD card. Also the directory "com.ubuntu.camera" does not
exist. The basic directory tree like "Pictures, Music etc." is
available...

P.S.: What I have noted: When choosing SD in the camera app, it looks
like the camera makes a picture, including virtual camera sound. But the
picture is a mentioned not saved to any location and after that I cannot
