When the freeze happens can you still move the mouse cursor? If so then
it would be gnome-shell and not Xorg.

I had to force-shutdown my machine, and I booted an older kernel (which
is the one in the bug report), the proper kernel version in use at the
time of the bug was linux-image-5.4.0-14-generic
