I see the problem here as well in 17.04.
The solution with x-systemd.automount mount option in fstab seems to
help.

Can't verify this behaviour on more detailed testing.
Setting hosts in nsswitch.conf to dns only and specifying DNS-server and
search domains in the interface configuration does not necessarily
resolve the hostname, even when searching with the fqdn.
