I have the same problem that is initially solved in the same way.
Closing the laptop and opening it again seems to restore sound. Running
Ubuntu Studio v19.10 amd64 on a brand new, just bought HP Pavilion
x360-14-dh1008ca. Any way I can help with full solution, let me know.

Linux systems (Ubuntu 16.04) fail to connect to various hotels with wifi
as a result of the DHCPDiscover message being sent by dhclient. The
same laptop using MSWindows connects with the hotels without a problem.
This has been observed at multiple locations.
The problem was
I had the same problem with my -116 kernel upgrade.
So I am running `gcc version 5.4.1 20160904 (Ubuntu
5.4.1-2ubuntu1~16.04)` but this was already installed it seems - I can't
see in the dpkg.log* files when this was added. I am assuming that this
is a newer version of GCC than is needed, but ho

When I boot , choosing Upstart from the boot menu, I briefly see the
messages

Sometimes (three occasions in the last month) my Nexus 7 can't play
media files. If I select a video in the Video scope, the player launches
