Having this same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 running inside VirtualBox. Somehow the Unity bars are not shown. I tried compiz --replace and i get "compiz (core) - Error: Plugin 'composite' not loaded." Then I tried "$ sudo unity --reset ERROR: the reset option is now deprecated" -- You received this
