I'm watching this error since about 10 months hoping that this would be fixed
before the 20.04 release.
Now we're almost 4 months past the release date and it's still there.

Hi! I just want to chime in and document my workaround to use a generic
UVC webcam with a built-in mic.
I attach a screenshot showing both a "multichannel input" and
"microphone" once the UVC webcam is attached.
Notice the picklist still does not contain an item for the system built-
in [analog]
This looks like a signalling problem. There doesn't seem to be any
corruption in the image. Only the signal to the monitor doesn't
correctly match the frequencies that the monitor requires.
As a workaround please try selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login
screen.

released. So that can't be the problem.
