What you are seeing is an OpenGL-based application (Firefox or Chromium)
that is being forced to update its entire window constantly. Since it is
OpenGL-based, gnome-shell does not have the opportuni

been like that for a few years although PulseAudio 13.0 in Ubuntu 19.10
has introduced extra sensitivity with respect to HDMI events...

I have just run the test case from this bug description on the bionic-proposed
version 1.10.6-2ubuntu1.2.
tcpdump does not show any leak of the VPN-specific queries. I have not observed
other issues in my tests.

So, I'm not sure if this is a kernel headers/assembly bug (as ioctl is
used from there), gcc-9 bug, or the combination of the two.
I'm going to save argc, and use a saved copy for now, but this needs
deeper analysis. This sounds like a retpoline mitigation.

Well, the same problem happens in the "Parameters" dashboard. If I get
it well, there are three breakpoints:
* no left-menu displayed
* a narrow left-menu displayed
* a larger left-menu displayed
In the case of a narrow left menu, flicker happens at least in the Tweak
tool and Parameters app.
I can confirm the bug, exact same behavior here. Upgraded from ubuntu
19.04 and same flickering effect.

So this was somehow caused by the ftbfs fix for klibc. On my eoan
system:
