Thought I'd let you guys know, especially given the complaints above,
that oddly I just developed this exact same bug but in Windows! On a
Windows 10 only laptop which just updated itself to the 'Fall' Creators
edition or whatever it's called.

I have a Qt 5 application which has a dependency on protobuf 2.6.
Having upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10 I am no longer able to run it.

This problem seems to be caused by a duplicate address, when another
host is trying to use the same address as the NTP server. I am using ntp
version 4.2.8p9, with two local patches applied.
In /var/log/ntp.log, the following three errors are repeated many times:

I may have to, because it's even registering output changes on a
reinstall. I reedited those pulse audio files to change the number of
speakers, but that didn't help either, so I did a reinstall. I usually
try to avoid that. Thanks for the assistance.

Yesterday I decided to do a fresh reinstallation of ubuntu on my
notebook and after having reinstalled some of the applications and
daemons I use normally, I performed one of several reboots that I
normally do in these processes.
