I cannot reproduce this on debian.
It seems that one of the difference is that resolvconf support is
disabled in the ubuntu package. I feel that the problem comes from here.
resovconf support should probably (not tested) be enabled in case it's
pulled on the system by a dependency

Seeing this on 17.10 as well. Battery indicator says ("estimating,
100%) and indicator-datetime-service uses between 2.4 GiB and (mostly)
~14.5 GiB RAM. CPU usage stays at 25% all the time. The indicator-
datetime-service crashes after reaching all available RAM, then restarts
with new PID.

I can't confirm what Kasey (kasey-erickson) wrote: issue still appears in
Ubuntu 17.10.
I upgraded from 17.04. So if it really should be fixed in 17.10 I'm very open
to hints for particular config purges/reinstallations or actually anything that
could help.

thanks. I wonder if udev should recommend libu2f-udev (such that most
systems have it), or if it should be seeded into desktop common (such
that all destkop-like systems have it).
It would also need MIR, which should be simple enough.
