I'm experiencing this exact same problem after upgrading to 14.10 from
14.04. Later I did a clean 14.10 install (on a completely new ssd) and
that too showed exactly the same problem.

I verified this just now using gmtp instead of the default Ubuntu mtp
tools. Gmtp can't see the device either, after it has been unplugged
and idle for 15 minutes, and it doesn't get hung up on gvfs issues so
it's usually much more reliable.

It's hard to get exact steps for this, but basically the behaviour I'm
seeing is that if I leave the device disconnected, after a while (10-15
minutes, when I go to plug it back in, it is not mounted. Then no matter
how many times I unplug and plug the device it will never be

Some QML tests import the telephony plugin, and they are currently
crashing as the test environment might not have a proper DBus session
configured.
Telephony-service's QML plugin should instead just warn about this and
then silently fail.
