After having installed systemd-44-8.fc17 *and* applying the most recent
F17 updates (includes a *glibc* update) , the reboot problem has
deteriorated:
1) Even going from runlevel 5 into runlevel 3 and then rebooting (was
previously a workaround) no more helps.
2) Booting directly into to runlevel

it seems config file format has changed between versions or something. You
may have some ".rpmnew" files in /etc/dovecot after the upgrade. - I copied
across the new format, added my info and was away.
