If you're talking about perl, you do actually have a debugger,
since one comes with it. man perldebug, which in essence says
"perl -d is a debugger".
(of course, it must be 'compiled' ok, so it might not help
When I try to open the datek streamer ( a java applet)
It opens but then I get nothing.
Can someone tell me if I need to set up java on my
linux box or somthing??

netscape should out of the box, run java fine by default, but if it
doesn't get up to edit -> prefrences -> advanced and then make sure the
appropriate boxes are enabled.
